Storm updates: Urbana, Danville schools shift to e-learning; Parkland, DACC cancel classes

The latest reports of closings, cancellations and delayed starts due to Sunday’s winter storm:

— City of Urbana: “As a precaution due to the current dangerous weather conditions, City of Urbana business offices at City Hall, the Cohen Building, and the Public Works Department will be closed on Monday, January 6, 2025. The Landscape Recycling Center will also be closed on Monday. Urbana City Council meetings scheduled for Monday, January 6, will be rescheduled. A separate information release will be issued by the City Clerk’s Office. Essential services of the police, fire, and public works departments will remain open. Residents are encouraged to avoid traveling unless it is necessary. If travel is required, please exercise caution and allow for extra time to reach your destination.”

— Urbana schools: “Due to the winter storm, we are shifting to E-Learning for Monday, January 6, 2025.”

— Danville Area Community College: “DACC campus, offices, and Child Development Center will be CLOSED Monday, January 6, 2025 due to inclement winter weather.”

— Parkland College: “Due to inclement weather, Parkland College is closed tomorrow, January 6. All programs and services, including area learning centers and the Child Development Center, have been cancelled. All offices and access roads to campus will be closed as well. Questions regarding registration can be directed to [email protected].”

— City of Champaign: “For the safety of public visitors and City of Champaign employees, City facilities and administrative offices will be closed to the public on Monday, January 6, 2025. This includes the Champaign City Building, 205 W Park Avenue, and the Public Works facility. All emergency and storm response services will remain operational. If residents do not need to travel, they are encouraged to stay off the roads so Public Works crews can safely and efficiently clear the roads. If residents must travel, please use extreme caution, plan ahead, and give yourself extra time to reach your destination.”

— Champaign County: “Champaign County administrative offices, to include the Sheriff’s Office, Brookens, and Courthouse, will be closed on Monday due to inclement weather. This is upon advice from the National Weather Service and our emergency managers. While we likely won’t get as much snow as predicted, blowing and drifting tonight will likely cause issues for road crews, and we don’t want anyone to jeopardize their safety, including our employees. We’d rather err on the side of caution. County business will resume on Tuesday. There will be no interruption in emergency services provided by the Sheriff’s Office.”

— C-U Public Health District: “The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District will be closed tomorrow, January 6, due to inclement weather conditions. This includes the following locations: 201 W. Kenyon Road in Champaign and 520 E. Wabash in Rantoul.”

— Danville schools: “Due to the winter weather that we are experiencing, Danville School District 118 will be pivoting to an E-Learning day tomorrow, Monday, January 6, 2025.”

— City of Champaign Township:The City of Champaign Township will be closed on Monday January 6th due to the winter storm. Strides Homeless Shelter will remain open 24 hours and will serve as a warming center.”

— Urbana Park District: “Due to the weather, Urbana Park District will close at 4 PM, Sunday and remain closed all day Monday. We will re-open Tuesday at regular time.”

— VA Illiana Health Care System: “The VA Clinics in Decatur, Mattoon and Springfield, Illinois will be on a delayed star tomorrow, January 6 due to weather conditions. Clinics will open at 9 a.m. and until their regular closing time. Patients with scheduled appointments before 9 a.m. will be contacted and rescheduled. Patients who have an in-person appointment after 9 a.m. and would prefer to be seen by phone or virtually, may call 217-554-4444 to change the modality of their appointment. All other VA Illiana locations of care will open on their regular schedule.”

— Regional Planning Commission: “Due to the severe winter weather, all RPC sites, including our Early Childhood Education Centers, our LIHEAP offices in Champaign and Rantoul, and the Youth Assessment Center, will be closed on Monday, January 6, 2025. We expect to be fully open again on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.”
